D. Relevant curriculum  
     • K-12 curriculum that focuses on what students need to know in the 21st Century
     • Pre-School (K3 - K4) develops learning and  social skills in a nurturing environment
     • Middle School (5-8) provides personalized instruction so students may accelerate their
       mastery of core subjects, including Algebra 1 and Physical Science in 8th grade
     • Upper School (9-12) mirrors a liberal arts college with four years of English, science, and
       math as well as an array of classes in history, foreign language, art and music
     • Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) classes plus Interdisciplinary Seminars
     • Excellence in Science (Biology in 9th, Chemistry in 10th, Physics in 11th, & AP
       Environmental Science in 12th), and mathematics (including AP Calculus)

       studies for all students, brings a diverse array of leaders to campus for speeches and

     • Environmental studies and ecology are integrated into the curriculum from K3 - 12
     • One of only two schools in South Carolina endorsed by Project Learning Tree, a national
        program for environmental study
     • Environmental emphasis capitalizes on our unique location close to incredible natural
        resources and a campus containing certified outdoor classrooms and nature walks
     • High school students conduct environmental research with university faculty,
        strengthening their candidacy for admission to the best colleges and universities
     • Advanced Placement Environmental Studies course provides an interdisciplinary
        capstone experience for seniors that is nationally accredited
     • The “Ideal Learning Environment” is both ideal for learning and ideal for understanding
        and being a good steward of the environment


  B.  A Global Perspective
     • Commitment to educating citizens of the world
     • Instill an awareness that what happens in South Africa impacts what happens in South
       Carolina; the economy of China influences jobs in Georgetown County; and civil rights
       violations in Darfur help define the human condition of all Americans
     • Students graduate with a more sophisticated understanding of the world and their place
       within a global society through foreign languages taught in elementary school and world
       events and  cultural anthropology taught in middle and upper school, as well as the
       presence of international students on campus, study abroad programs, and developing
       leadership skills in a global context


  C.  An Aesthetic Perspective
     • Recognition that innovative solutions to problems often come from the creative part of
        the brain
     • All students are required to study art and music, to participate in theatre and public
        speaking, and to write poetry, short stories, and expository prose
     • Award-winning artistic, literary, and theatre presentations at the county and state level
     • Interdisciplinary approach to integrating the arts into the curriculum
     • Small class size and individual attention enables each student to develop his or her
